Conducting virtual teaching was difficult due to inaccessibility to TV, Cell Phones during parents’ working hours or IT connections via Computers. Parents had to be relied upon to ensure children’s continuing education.
To overcome these difficulties, teachers of two schools (Urban: Shamsunnahar Ahsan Kalyani Inclusive School, Mirpur, Dhaka; Rural: Karimganj Kalyani Inclusive School, Kishoreganj) mapped out children’s homes. Groups of 4-7 children living close by, whom we called “Community Based Educational Bubbles”, deemed to be ‘safe’, were provided direct education by visiting teachers; following all government directives on prevention (eg, hand washing, masks, monitoring fever).
158 rural children and 155 urban children were provided with this assistance.
Both schools were able to cover almost 100% of the syllabus, by early Nov, 2020.
The program was terminated following government directives in early Nov, 2020.
